Creative Team:
Theatre Royal Bath Productions and Mayflower Theatre present the Curve Production of
Beautiful The Carole King Musical
Director: Nikolai Foster, Choreographer: Leah Hill,
This is a new version of a show I’ve seen a number of times before. Both in the West End and other touring productions.
The major change with this incarnation is that it is an actor/musician version. So the cast as well as playing all the roles also have to play multiple instruments to a professional standard. Awe inspiring I can tell you.
In this production “Carole King” is played by Molly-Grace Cutler, “Gerry Goffin” Tom Millner, “Cynthia Weil” Seren Sandham-Davies, “Barry Man” Jos Slovik and “Donnie Kirshner” Garry Robson. With a full supporting cast playing all the other (multiple) roles (each).
As (I believe) the performers who played Carole King in previous productions just ‘faked’ the piano playing it brought a new edge to the productions knowing that Molly-Grace could play the instrument and sing, as the real Carole King did.
The music is wonderful, and even if you think you don’t know the music of Carole King believe me you do! I mean she wrote so many of the 60s great hits, including ‘Will you still love me tomorrow’ and ‘The Locomotion.
I thoroughly enjoyed this show. i mean I’d seen it at least 3 times before so I knew what to expect from the content but the way it was performed, making it a smaller more intimate version blew me away. The Orchestra weren’t missed for a moment in this new way of presenting the story. Due to the technical excellence of all the actor / musicians in the cast.
If you get a chance go and check out this brilliant production.
