Concerts 2023/24

So I’ve decided to create and update this page for one off concerts I have seen and (currently am planning to see) but when you read this I will have seen them … God this is confusing me and i’m writing it!

Basically shorter mini-reviews of concerts i’ve seen. 🙂

Sophie Evans in Concert Treorchy 28th  September 2023

Sophie returns ‘home’ to the Rhondda valley to perform an intimate evening of songs in the bar / cabaret room of the Park & Dare theatre.

Now I’ve followed Sophie’s career since she was on the ‘Over the Rainbow’ talent show in 2011. She came second in that show and was immeadiately cast as alternate ‘Dorothy’, performing a some shows each week, eventually taking over when the actress who won Danielle Hope left, finishing the run as the lead.

Subsequently Sophie has appeared in two runs as ‘Glinda’ in Wicked in the West End, prior to and reopening the show after Covid. Check out the audience reaction when she flies in on the first night back on YouTube!

Sophie is now one of the founding members of The Welsh of the West End group, that started singing musical theatre songs during the first lockdown recording their parts at home and being skillfully edited together by Stefan Hughes. This wonderfully talented bunch of Welshies have now performed all over the world.

So the evening was Sophie telling stories about her career so far and singing songs that were important to her. It was a great nights entertainment, and I for one would definately book to see this talented singer in concert whenever I could.

Elvis in Concert – Utilita Arena – 1st November 2023

Now with the man himself havng passed in 1977 this was one of the tours where they use scenes from his filmed concert performances but with a live orchestra playing on the stage.

There have been a number of tours like this but this was the first one I got to see.

The music was, as you’d expect being an Elvis fan, brilliant. The voice still as unmistakeable all these years on. to hear the live orchestra performing in the room certainly added that extra something. They were excellent.

Really wish I could say the same for some of the audience who were, it appeared to me .. pis .. well oiled and absolute in their conviction that they were the backing singers the King needed, and this take the edge off the enjoyment a little for me.

Welsh of the West End – Speigeltent Cardiff December 18th 2023

Well a chance here to see the whole group. Although I should say the members do vary at different times due to their commitments in other shows.

A little different as it was in a ‘big top’ as in large tent, that is apparently a tradition in Belgium. Being a brightly decorated tent for entertainment.

This was a great night of Christmas and Musical theatre songs with some pop hits included as well.
